Bohumil Hrabal, mistr slova, scenárista Jiřího Menzela, spisovatel zbožňovaný Kunderou a Havlem, štamgast v hospodě U Zlatého tygra a plachý sukničkář. Samotář, záhadný i ve své tragické smrti. Aleksander Kaczorowski, polský bohemista, znalec a překladatel Hrabalova díla. Přátelé. Unikátní biografie připomíná Hrabalovu výjimečnou osobnost i dílo z mnoha neobvyklých perspektiv. Autor při práci využil řadu pozapomenutých zdrojů, které nepatří ke „kánonu“ Hrabalových textů, nechybí proto ani překvapivé či humorné momenty. Díky osobní známosti obou spisovatelů je navíc příběh doplněn historkami doslova z první ruky, a to i z méně známých životních etap Hrabalova života.

| CfP: Congress of Central and East European Studies Deadline January 31, 2024 On 7 and 8 October 2024, the German Association for East European Studies (DGO) and the Freie Universität Berlin will host the second Congress of Central and East European Studies (ceecon24) in Berlin. ceecon is the largest multidisciplinary congress on Central and Eastern Europe in the German-speaking world. ceecon provides the international research community with an important venue for exchanging and discussing the latest research findings on the region. The congress spotlights scholarly work on the Baltic States, Central and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia. Academic exchange on topics relevant to all scholars in the field will take place in plenary sessions. Seven parallel sections will address research questions concerning a broad variety of topics and methodological approaches. Scholars from literary studies or with an interest in Computational Literary Studies methods are invited to apply for a fellowship grant in one of our infrastructure providers. Successful applicants will not only obtain free-of-charge physical access to the infrastructure, but in the context of the overall project they will become part of the larger CLS community.

The Palgrave Handbook of Intermediality
This handbook provides an extensive overview of traditional and emerging research areas within the field of intermediality studies, understood broadly as the study of interrelations among all forms of communicative media types, including transmedial phenomena. Section I offers accounts of the development of the field of intermediality – its histories, theories and methods. Section II and III then explore intermedial facets of communication from ancient times until the 21st century, with discussion on a wide range of cultural and geographical settings, media types, and topics, by contributors from a diverse set of disciplines. It concludes in Section IV with an emphasis on urgent societal issues that an intermedial perspective might help understand.
